When COVID-19 hit, my life shifted, like it did for many others. Suddenly, I found myself with an abundance of time, yet a loss of direction. I had been busy running an Amazon store and an e-commerce business after closing my photography studio.

Things were going well — until shipping issues during the pandemic made it nearly impossible to keep up. The income I had worked so hard to build took a hit. I sold my Amazon store for $3,000 to an American-only retailer, knowing it had good reviews and value, but it felt like saying goodbye to a part of me. If you are a small business owner, you can relate to what I am saying.

As I adapted to this unexpected lull, Medium became an outlet. I began writing, not only to fill my time but to make sense of the world around me. Sharing my thoughts, insights, and photography became a way to connect, and I slowly built a routine around it.

At first, it was just about posting, but as I dove deeper into Medium’s community, I realized the platform was teaching me a lot. Writing felt like learning all over again — structuring my words, being patient with my ideas, and finding the right language to share my experiences meaningfully.
